How long does it take for food to cause weight gain?

The food that we eat usually takes 24-72 hours for us to digest and then excretes in the form of waste.  When food enters the mouth, saliva is secreted and mixes with the chewed food by the tongue. Then after this the chemical breakdown begins with the saliva’s enzymes, salivary amylase and the starch is broken down into more simple sugars. This is the first basic thing that you should know and will probably interest you. After this a whole lot of biological process takes place like the food goes through the small intestine and then the large intestine to get further digested. Then food is finally converted into waste which as mentioned earlier takes 24 to 72 hours.

The main question is when and how has this food turned into poison which once which delighted your palate.

The fat storage

Though the question we are dealing with may be a simple one, the answer for this is quite complex. When food gets digested enzymes and hormones are secreted by our stomach and other small intestines and then work to break down the carbohydrates, protein and fat that we have eaten into material that can be used for our body. The fat cells, liver cells, and muscle cells in your blood absorbs the fatty acids and store them in molecules as fat droplets. Any extra carbohydrates and protein will be converted into fat by the fat cells, but they are passed over until all fat has been dealt with, since fat is much easier for the fat cells to convert. 24 to 72 hours after the food is ingested, it has been converted to fat or muscle.

There are thousands of different proteins in the body and the weight gain from these necessary proteins is limited. There is also the water weight which is the storage of extra carbohydrates in the body in the form of glycogen. Glycogen which consists of simple sugars and water gets stored in the muscle tissue and the liver and that is why it is said that sugar makes one fat.

While the fact is that your weight is gained at the end of the 24-72 hour period yet you should not be counting days or weeks or hours to estimate your weight gain. You should ideally lead a healthy lifestyle and be careful about what you eat. Think in terms of months and years.
